LASIK has a rapid recovery time, 24 hours for most patients. It affords stable vision after treatment for most patients. And for the first time there is a procedure that can correct most prescriptions...including Myopia, Hyperopia, & Astigmatism.
The LASIK surgery is performed on both eyes the same day with quick
visual rehabilitation and return to work. It's also possible to treat
most over & under corrections easily, with an "enhancement" or
"touch up procedure."
Although it is not a procedure for everyone, it remains the most predictable and most precise of all refractive procedures with the quickest recovery time.
The LASIK procedure involves using a laser to reshape the cornea to match your current glasses or contact lens prescription, thereby eliminating the need for corrective lenses. During the procedure a protective flap is made in the cornea. After the reshaping is complete, the protective flap is folded back into place, where it bonds securely without the need for stitches. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis using anesthetic to numb the eye. Some patients feel a little pressure during the procedure, but no pain. After LASIK surgery, some patients report a slight discomfort that usually goes away within 24 hours.
After the procedure, rest your eyes for 24 hours. A follow up visit with the doctor is scheduled the following day and 1 week after surgery, to ensure that your eyes are healing correctly. A small percentage of people require a touch up operation or enhancement within 1-3 months after the procedure.
